Mirantis Employees are the Russian Winners of the Prestigious ACM Programming Contest in Austin, Texas.

Foster City, Calif. – (PRN Newswire) – A team of three students from Russia ran away with the number one position in the competition at the 2006 (ACM) Association for Computing Machinery’s International Collegiate Programming Contest. Russia took five out of ten spots overall beating out other illustrious competition such as MIT, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and others.

The students are part of the Saratov State University ACM team that traveled to Austin, Texas from Saratov, Russia to take part in the prestigious event. Founded in 1947 ACM is a major force in advancing the skills of information technology professionals and students worldwide. Today ACM has over 80,000 members and growing. For over 30 years participating students from Russian Universities have excelled taking top honors.

Saratov State University is one of the oldest universities in Russia. It was founded December 6, 1909 as the Imperial Saratov University and has been developing dynamically ever since. In 2004 SSU celebrated its 90th anniversary with 25 departments with an offering of 46 specialized fields.

The top spot was not easily won, the questions were extremely complex and the programs to be written were creatively difficult. The contestants had to be really on top of their game and finish within the given time of only five hours to solve ten problems that would in the real world take months for completion.
