SSU team took the gold at ACM IPCP finals
STOCKHOLM, Sweden – April 21, 2009 – ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest 2009 took place for the 33rd time. Among the best 100 teams from all over the world, the Russian team occupied the leading position and won three gold medals of the four possible, taking first, third and fourth places. Out of the three best results of the Russian teams at the finals the Saratov State University team exhibited the best results in semi-finals to become the Champions of Russia. The team once again is proudly sponsored by Mirantis, Inc. (www.mirantis.com). Students from Saratov State University solved 8 problems with 1305 minutes of penalty time (leaders of the contest solved 9 problems with 1381 minutes of penalty time), took the fourth position and won a gold medal which is the second one for the Saratov State University.
The first time the team of Saratov State University drew professional attention world-wide was in 2002, when the students of SSU became the Champions of Europe. The event became the starting point in a row of achievements made by the combined team of students and coaches that were engaged in the preparation for the championship. Every year the University of Saratov participates in the contest showing significant results, such as achieving the status of World and European champions and other prestigious awards. This year the team from Saratov received best result in the semi-finals and became the Champions of Russia 2009 with the SSU team taking the gold at the ACM ICPC 2009 finals.
Mirantis provides intensive technical and financial support in the preparation of the SSU team for the finals. Strategic partnership of the University of Saratov and Mirantis started in 2006, when the company became a title sponsor of the Saratov students at the ACM ICPC event for the first time. Students, who once took part in the International Collegiate Programming Contest, now work in Mirantis and contribute to the development of the company as qualified engineers. They also continue to participate in the championship as organizers of the ACM ICPC sub regional quarter-finals and as coaches, training SSU teams for the competition.
