Product development Center (PdC) for KLA-Tencor
The Business Challenge
KLA-Tencor is the market leader in yield management and process control solutions for the semiconductor and microelectronics industries. Ranked as one of the top ten semiconductor equipment manufactures, KLA-Tencor offers a broad spectrum of products and services that are used by every major semiconductor manufacturer in the world.
KLA-Tencor needed to create a corporate site where they could do algorithmic development using extremely intelligent people at a lower cost, specifically in the areas of computational Electromagnetics, Lithography, and Electronic Design Automation (EDA). A Portal of very specialized applications needed to be enhanced, requiring a product oriented engineering group with high-end R&D capabilities. The Solution
KLA-Tencor wanted to access experienced scientific R&D resources from Russian Universities, both Mathematicians and Physicists, and Mirantis was successful in acquiring top talent from those educational institutions and quickly assembling them into an R&D center. This team of highly skilled individuals was assigned to work on core engineering products alongside KLA-Tencor’s US teams.
The total package that Mirantis provided included world-class expertise such as management of full life-cycle software development, scientific algorithm development and enhancements, and extensive program management. The infrastructure put in place for KLA-Tencor’s Russian operations was also designed to be transparent and easily scaleable.
Results
- KLA-Tencor is using the Russian teams as part of their core R&D, working on critical and complex projects within the engineering and business units
