Mirantis Delivers Secure Multi-Tenant Networking for AI with NVIDIA BlueField

Mirantis and NVIDIA

Organizations that partition GPU infrastructure across multiple teams or customers need robust multi-tenant networking that will ensure secure network-level isolation for each tenant without sacrificing network performance. Mirantis is one of the first design and integration partners to deliver secure multi-tenant networking for AI with NVIDIA BlueField. BlueField data processing units (DPUs) turn conventional computing environments into a secure, high-performance virtual private cloud, giving organizations the flexibility to run multiple application workloads in isolated, protected environments. Mirantis k0rdent AI is the composable AI infrastructure platform that now provides full-stack deployment and lifecycle management of the BlueField-3 Platform in Zero Trust mode (i.e., the DPU is isolated from the Host operating system) and integrates it into our multi-tenant Virtualization and Kubernetes-as-a-Service solution.

One of the key benefits of integrating the BlueField-3 Platform into Mirantis k0rdent AI is the ability to create strict multi-tenancy for north-south traffic and high-speed access to storage. This allows users of the platform to select a deployment and isolation pattern that suits their needs, including bare metal isolation, virtualization, and Kubernetes.Diagram showing a layered architecture with host and DPU components: VMs, Kubernetes, OS, CPU, GPU, Ethernet, Storage, and networks.Mirantis k0rdent AI combines bare metal provisioning and cluster orchestration capabilities to deploy and manage the operating system and Kubernetes clusters on the BlueField-3 Platforms independently from the host, ensuring that the Zero Trust configuration is maintained throughout the lifecycle of the deployment.

The DOCA Platform Framework (DPF) is then integrated into the k0rdent Kubernetes-as-a-Service and k0rdent virtualization service to provide secure multi-tenant network connectivity for north-south traffic, and shared storage connectivity. Utilizing DPF and integrating it with k0rdent and k0smotron, we are able to reduce the impact of technology changes to the underlying BlueField platforms whilst still maintaining high levels of functionality and integration.
Mirantis k0rdent AI and NVIDIA BlueField DPUsWith the release of the next-generation NVIDIA BlueField-4 and its increased (6x) compute power and the doubling of its bandwidth (800Gb/s), we will be moving more of the network complexity to the BlueField-4 Platform, taking advantage of the Host-Based Networking (HBN) and thereby simplifying the underlying switch configuration requirements.

We will also take advantage of the increased compute power to integrate extended networking services like real-time threat detection, and data acceleration, all managed jointly through the Mirantis k0rdent AI Platform and the DOCA Platform Framework.
