Mirantis Expands Availability of Mirantis Container Runtime across AWS, Azure, and GCP Marketplaces

Many cloud native application developers depend on public clouds to rapidly build, test, and deploy applications, but public cloud container services often lack enterprise-grade features that organizations need for production workloads. To bridge this gap, Mirantis has expanded the availability of Mirantis Container Runtime (MCR) as a pay-as-you-go offering on all major public cloud marketplaces, including those for Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with images available for Windows Server, Ubuntu, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

These new MCR offerings simplify containerization for developers, DevOps teams, and platform engineers, and deployment is easy with just a few clicks — no manual installation is required. When an MCR image is launched from a cloud marketplace, the container runtime and selected operating system are provisioned automatically and fully licensed. Production workloads can be operational in minutes.

Why Do Cloud Native Teams Need Mirantis Container Runtime on AWS, Azure or GCP?

There are three key motivations for cloud native teams operating in public cloud environments to deploy Mirantis Container Runtime:

A Seamless Path from Docker to Production

For teams currently using Docker for development, MCR offers an easy transition to production environments in the cloud with zero refactoring. MCR is fully compatible with Docker tooling, including dockerd, containerd, and runc, so existing development workflows remain intact. In addition to compatibility, MCR provides enterprise-grade support, security hardening, and FIPS 140-2 validated components that help meet compliance requirements. It supports a wide range of workloads, from dev/test environments to mission-critical applications.

Built-In Security and Compliance

Security is at the core of MCR in the cloud. All marketplace images are pre-configured with FIPS-validated cryptographic modules, hardened base images, and Docker Content Trust (DCT) to verify image integrity and authenticity. For customers with advanced compliance requirements, such as federal agencies, financial services institutions, or organizations in other highly regulated industries, MCR supports optional STIG hardening on Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments. MCR enables organizations to operate containers in a hardened, standards-based, secure environment, supported by Mirantis experts in container security and lifecycle management, who have experience supporting hundreds of customer deployments in production.

Hybrid Cloud Flexibility with a Consistent Runtime

MCR provides a consistent foundation for running containers across both cloud and on-premises environments. Organizations can standardize on the same runtime whether they’re updating legacy infrastructure or deploying new greenfield applications. MCR offers identical binaries and a uniform operational experience across public cloud platforms, private data centers, and air-gapped systems. This consistency supports workload portability, streamlines DevSecOps practices, and eliminates vendor lock-in for cloud-specific runtimes.

How to Get Started

Mirantis Container Runtime is available today in the following cloud marketplaces:

Users can select from Ubuntu, RHEL, or Windows Server images and deploy in minutes. The pay-as-you-go model includes operating system licensing, MCR licensing, FIPS-validated encryption modules, and 24/7 commercial support from Mirantis. This model provides teams with the flexibility to scale workloads, test secure environments, or migrate existing infrastructure without upfront costs or long-term commitments.

MCR offers a fast and secure path for organizations that are looking to enhance security, bring Docker workloads into production, or develop a consistent hybrid cloud architecture.
