Alex Freedland is Mirantis’ co-founder and CEO. With more than 20 years of executive management and leadership experience, Alex brings a unique combination of business acumen and intimate understanding of the OpenStack community and technology. Alex serves on the Board of the OpenStack Foundation and was recently recognized by Business Insider as one of the “Most Important People in Cloud Computing”.
A serial Entrepreneur, Alex co-founded RSI Group, Inc., one of the world’s principal providers of Receivables Management Software, which sold to London Bridge Software PLC (now part of Fair Isaac Corporation–NYSE: FICO) at 800% return to the investors. Alex’s previous experience includes a wide range of technical and management positions with Tektronix, IBM, ADP, Netscape, and KLA-Tencor.
He holds a master’s degree in computer engineering from Santa Clara University in California.
Co-Founder and CMO
Boris is responsible for helping define Mirantis’ strategic vision and executing on it in the marketplace across the OpenStack ecosystem and beyond. Boris’s influence was instrumental in Mirantis’ current focus on OpenStack. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the OpenStack Foundation.
During the last 15 years, Boris held several executive positions with the companies he helped establish. He was a founder and CEO of Selectosa Systems—an IT consulting company that was subsequently acquired in 2006—and a co-founder and angel investor at AGroup—now a venture backed enterprise software company headquartered in Europe.
Boris holds a BSc in Information Systems from Santa Clara University. He likes technical scuba diving, motorcycles, and RC helicopters.
Rik Thorbecke oversees Mirantis’ global financial strategy and operations, human resources, legal, administration and IT activities. Rik joined Mirantis in November of 2015 and provides leadership in strategic planning, business insights, scalability of process and systems, and building infrastructure and a control environment to support the rapid growth and global expansion of the business.
Rik has spent the last 25 years in various executive roles at companies including Electronic Arts, Equinix, Levi Strauss, and as CFO of Plastic Logic and Meltwater. He started his career at the PricewaterhouseCoopers Amsterdam office, where he became a partner in the global technology practice. In 1999 he moved to the San Jose, California office as a partner in the Software and Internet practice.
Rik holds a Double Bachelors of Science Degree in Marketing and Economics, a Masters of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Postgraduate Degree in Accounting and Auditing from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Rik is also an active California CPA.
As Chief Operating Officer, Jim oversees the Mirantis engineering, professional services and customer support organizations. A highly regarded Silicon Valley entrepreneur and innovator, he brings more than 15 years of technology and operational experience building companies in the cloud computing space.
Previously, Jim served as CTO at Five9 – a market leading cloud-based call center software company, where he managed software development, data center operations, customer support and implementation, with a team of over 300 employees across 3 continents. Prior to that Jim was Vice President of Call Center Technology for Salesforce.com where he created their Call Center Edition; today, it has hundreds of thousands of users and generates a significant revenue stream for the company.
Prior to Salesforce.com, Jim launched a series of innovative cloud computing offerings, with technology leadership roles at a number of successful startup companies he co-founded. Products that Jim helped develop and bring to market have enjoyed industry recognition through awards for innovation and excellence. He also holds multiple patents related to telco-grade mission critical cloud computing technologies.
When not thinking about technology, Jim enjoys playing golf and tennis.
EVP, General Manager Enterprise Cloud Business Unit
Chris Keene is the General Manager for Enterprise Cloud. Chris joined Mirantis from BMC Software, where he ran the $220M cloud and automation group. Previously, he sold his open source PaaS company, WaveMaker, to VMware and then drove the $400M spinout of Pivotal. Chris was also the founder and CEO of Persistence Software, a real time data analytics company that he took public on Nasdaq in 1999.
He holds an MBA from Wharton and a BS from Stanford in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Parvesh is responsible for services at Mirantis, bringing a track record of more than 25 years experience leading complex global organizations with $50M to $3B revenues to achieve extraordinary business results.
Prior to joining Mirantis, Parvesh served as a Senior Vice President of Cisco Advanced Services team, leading a multi-billion dollar professional services organization of more than 8000 members, repeatedly delivering exceptional growth and high customer satisfaction.
Parvesh holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington, and an M.B.A. from The University of Dallas.
Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales
Marque is a distinguished executive responsible for more than 20 years of exceptional results building and leading enterprise software teams resulting in over $1B in revenues. Joining Mirantis in March of 2015, his experience, energy and innovative sales system play an instrumental role in navigating Mirantis’ explosive growth in helping our customers win in the software economy.
Teegardin got his start in software sales at PTC where over an eight-year career he rose to the level of Sr. VP, leading PTC’s most strategic accounts across North America. During this time, his teams contributed significantly to PTC’s massive growth from $250M to $1B in revenue. After PTC, Teegardin spent six years at NICE Systems, the Israeli-based Customer Experience leader where he rebuilt its Global accounts business and led much of the Americas region through a six year growth plan to over $500M annually.
Prior to Mirantis, Teegardin led an effort to overhaul the go to market approach at StoredIQ, an Austin Texas based Big Data Governance company. After doubling sales and a driving successful exit to IBM, the post acquisition Teegardin-led StoredIQ team was so successful, it remains one of the most successful acquisitions in IBM history.
Marque holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing/Psychology from Hillsdale College.
Vice President, Upstream & Community Engineering
Ilya runs the Mirantis OpenStack Platform Product engineering group focused on empowering OpenStack with a richer feature set around application-facing functions. Ilya’s group drives the development of OpenStack Savanna and Murano projects and also actively participates in the development of OpenStack projects such as Heat, Ceilometer, and Trove.
Previously, Ilya ran Mirantis Cloud Services, broadening the expertise in cloud enablement for applications, DevOps automation, and creation of data-intensive services utilizing modern technology stack components such as Hadoop, Cassandra, Storm, and Lucene/Solr. Before that, Ilya headed Mirantis Global Engineering. He has also led the establishment of product development centers for world-leading technology innovators such as Cisco and Agilent.
Ilya holds a MSc in Physics with honors from Saratov State University, Russia. He spends time away from work mountain biking, hiking, and cross-country-skiing when the weather in California resembles his native Russia.
Vice President, Mirantis OpenStack Engineering
Roman runs Mirantis’ OpenStack development arm, focused on delivering solutions in the OpenStack ecosystem, as well as creating and committing code for leading edge projects and features spanning the range of cloud infrastructure technologies.
At Mirantis, Roman has moved from software engineer to become a team lead, subsequently spearheading Mirantis’ presence at Cisco and growing it to 40+ engineers. He most recently served as the Director of the Big Data Competence Center. In 2006, Roman won the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest—the most prestigious programming contest in the world.
In his free time, Roman enjoys DJing and Go Kart racing.
