Co-Founder & CEO
Alex Freedland is Mirantis’ co-founder and CEO. With more than 20 years of executive management and leadership experience, Alex brings a unique combination of business acumen and intimate understanding of the OpenStack community and technology. Alex serves on the Board of the OpenStack Foundation and was recently recognized by Business Insider as one of the “Most Important People in Cloud Computing”.
A serial Entrepreneur, Alex co-founded RSI Group, Inc., one of the world’s principal providers of Receivables Management Software, which sold to London Bridge Software PLC (now part of Fair Isaac Corporation–NYSE: FICO) at 800% return to the investors. Alex’s previous experience includes a wide range of technical and management positions with Tektronix, IBM, ADP, Netscape, and KLA-Tencor.
He holds a master’s degree in computer engineering from Santa Clara University in California.
Co-Founder and CMO
Boris is responsible for helping define Mirantis’ strategic vision and executing on it in the marketplace across the OpenStack ecosystem and beyond. Boris’s influence was instrumental in Mirantis’ current focus on OpenStack. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the OpenStack Foundation.
During the last 15 years, Boris held several executive positions with the companies he helped establish. He was a founder and CEO of Selectosa Systems—an IT consulting company that was subsequently acquired in 2006—and a co-founder and angel investor at AGroup—now a venture backed enterprise software company headquartered in Europe.
Boris holds a BSc in Information Systems from Santa Clara University. He likes technical scuba diving, motorcycles, and RC helicopters.
Rik Thorbecke oversees Mirantis’ global financial strategy and operations, human resources, legal, administration and IT activities. Rik joined Mirantis in November of 2015 and provides leadership in strategic planning, business insights, scalability of process and systems, and building infrastructure and a control environment to support the rapid growth and global expansion of the business.
Rik has spent the last 25 years in various executive roles at companies including Electronic Arts, Equinix, Levi Strauss, and as CFO of Plastic Logic and Meltwater. He started his career at the PricewaterhouseCoopers Amsterdam office, where he became a partner in the global technology practice. In 1999 he moved to the San Jose, California office as a partner in the Software and Internet practice.
Rik holds a Double Bachelors of Science Degree in Marketing and Economics, a Masters of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Postgraduate Degree in Accounting and Auditing from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Rik is also an active California CPA.
Vice President of Sales
Craig leads the Mirantis sales organization responsible for both the Americas and the worldwide Service Provider vertical. With more than 20 years of executive management and senior leadership experience, Craig provides strong vision, deep industry relationships, and disciplined sales execution across many of the largest and most complex customer environments throughout the world.
Prior to joining Mirantis in April of 2013 Craig served in various senior marketing and sales leadership roles for Dell Inc. both in Austin and in the bay area, most recently leading the Large Enterprise sales organization based in San Francisco while founding and serving as Global Practice Director for Dell’s Webscale service provider vertical.
Craig holds a BA in English Literature from Washington and Lee University and an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business.
Vice President of Product Marketing
As the Vice President of Product Marketing, Channels & Alliances, Jim Sangster is responsible for the marketing of Mirantis products and services as well as strategic alliances and partners. Jim joined Mirantis in March of 2015, bringing a breadth of knowledge and experience in marketing, sales and engineering.
Jim has built organizations and worked across multiple companies to bring complex products and solutions to market, and developed marketing and enablement strategies to maximize business growth. Jim has held leadership roles at Pure Storage, NetApp and Sun Microsystems encompassing Product Management, Product Marketing, Solutions Marketing, and Global Alliances.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from University of the Pacific in California. Jim is a California native and lives in Los Gatos with his family.
Vice President, Product & Solutions
Rikard Kjellberg is responsible for Mirantis’ product strategy, product management and solution architecture. Rikard joined Mirantis in May of 2013 and brings leadership from all aspects of product management, development, solution definition and delivery to Fortune 500 companies around the world.
Rikard spent the last 20 years in various leadership roles at companies including SAAB, Openwave, Venturi Wireless, Cloud.com and Citrix. He started his leadership career at the Swedish Space Corporation, where he, as software architect and director of engineering, helped orchestrate a spin-out and acquisition by SAAB. At SAAB TransponderTech, he took the role of CTO and head of product development, spearheading the go to market for mobile communication solutions for maritime and aviation applications. Rikard later was CTO and co-founder of Ellipsus, the first provider of mobile application app stores.He moved to Silicon Valley in 2002 when Ellipsus was acquired by Openwave Systems. He was responsible for two product lines as director of product management at Openwave.
Rikard holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Stockholm. He also holds an Airline Transport Pilot license and enjoys flying in beautiful California.
Vice President of Engineering
As VP of Engineering, Yuriy leads Mirantis Engineering, DevOps and Operations organizations in development of the game-changing Mirantis Cloud Platform. Yuriy’s global team activities range from upstream development of various open source projects such as OpenStack and Kubernetes, hardening open source software to make it enterprise grade, and providing world class operational support to Mirantis customers.
Prior to joining Mirantis, Yuriy held various engineering and leadership roles at companies such as Symantec, eBay and PayPal. Yuriy holds an engineering degree from the Ukrainian National Mining University.
