Adrian Ionel is the CEO of Mirantis, and its co-founder as an OpenStack company. He joined in 2009 and initiated the company’s investment in OpenStack in 2010. Since then the company grew from five to over one hundred customers, becoming the OpenStack market leader and one of the most respected brands in cloud infrastructure. Adrian leads Mirantis’ vision and strategy, and the company’s overall development rooted in a culture of customer intimacy, engineering excellence and risk taking as its foundation for long-term prosperity. Prior to Mirantis Adrian was CEO, Chairman and co-founder of eOnline, (now part of Xerox), VP and General Manager EMEA at Qualys (NASDAQ: QLYS) and Venture Partner at Trident Capital. He earned a MSEE degree from the University of Erlagen-Nuernberg and spent his early years in R&D and product management. A Romanian by birth Adrian lived in the UK, Germany and Japan and settled in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1995. Outside work he loves trail runs, power yoga, spending time with family and the occasional mountain biking ride.
Co-Founder and President
Alex Freedland is co-founder of Mirantis and our first CEO. Most recently, in the role of CFO, Alex guided the company through a number of equity and debt financing rounds. Currently, Alex oversees Mirantis OpenStack Community contribution strategy, and serves as Chairman of the board. He was recently recognized by Business Insider as one of the “Most Important People in Cloud Computing”.
A serial Entrepreneur, Alex co-founded RSI Group, Inc., one of the world’s principal providers of Receivables Management Software, which sold to London Bridge Software PLC (now part of Fair Isaac Corporation–NYSE: FICO) at 800% return to the investors. Alex’s previous experience includes a wide range of technical and management positions with Tektronix, IBM, ADP, Netscape, and KLA-Tencor.
He holds a master’s degree in computer engineering from Santa Clara University in California.
Co-Founder and CMO
Boris is responsible for helping define Mirantis’ strategic vision and executing on it in the marketplace across the OpenStack ecosystem and beyond. Boris’s influence was instrumental in Mirantis’ current focus on OpenStack. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the OpenStack Foundation.
During the last 15 years, Boris held several executive positions with the companies he helped establish. He was a founder and CEO of Selectosa Systems—an IT consulting company that was subsequently acquired in 2006—and a co-founder and angel investor at AGroup—now a venture backed enterprise software company headquartered in Europe.
Boris holds a BSc in Information Systems from Santa Clara University. He likes technical scuba diving, motorcycles, and RC helicopters.
David M. Fishman
Vice President, Market Development
David is responsible for putting Mirantis and OpenStack adoption front and center with customers and developers, across OpenStack and the open cloud ecosystem. He has over two decades of experience in IT marketing, business, and operations across a range of technology domains.
At Lucene/big data startup Lucid Imagination, David joined the founding team and served as VP Product Marketing. At HP, he was Director of Enterprise Products for Global Mobile Handhelds. At Sun Microsystems, he served as Director of the SW Update SaaS product line. He anchored the team that took startup Mercury Interactive public.
David has worked in datacenter disciplines such as reliability and high availability, performance, application development, open source, and service level management/SLAs. He is also an experienced Six Sigma Master Blackbelt. He is notorious for his wicked sense of humor and recently ran his second marathon. David holds an MBA from Yale.
VP, Strategic Accounts
Craig is responsible for the team that drives both new account acquisition and development for the most complex and demanding enterprise and service provider customers adopting OpenStack throughout the world. Prior to Mirantis, Craig served in various senior sales and marketing roles for Dell Inc., most recently leading the Large Enterprise division in Silicon Valley while building and serving as Global Practice Director for Dell’s Web|Tech vertical.
Craig holds a BA in English Literature from Washington and Lee University and an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business.
Oleg brings over 15 years of experience in building and running operations for companies in the high tech industry. For the last ten years, he was in charge of building and integrating high-performance engineering centers for the world’s leading technology companies, such as Cadence Design Systems, ST Micro, and Cisco. As Director of Engineering for RSI Group, Oleg built a Russian-based engineering center, which he continued to manage as a VP of Engineering for London Bridge Software.
Oleg has a master’s degree from the Minsk State University.
Vice President, OpenStack Services
Rikard is responsible for OpenStack services at Mirantis. He’s been an entrepreneur and technology executive for over 20 years, working with service providers, telecommunications companies, and enterprises to deliver carrier-grade solutions for mission critical applications.
Rikard led the cloud solutions delivery team at Citrix for the Americas while also supporting the integration of Cloud.com into the Citrix umbrella of solutions. Before that, Rikard was co-founder of Ellipsus, the first generation of mobile app stores in the US. Ellipsus was acquired by Openwave Systems in 2002. He continued to lead two product groups at Openwave Systems, comprising over 10% of the corporate revenue.
Rikard also is a pilot, avid windsurfer, surfer, snowboarder, and family man.
Vice President of Engineering, Upstream OpenStack (Community)
Ilya runs the Mirantis OpenStack Platform Product engineering group focused on empowering OpenStack with a richer feature set around application-facing functions. Ilya’s group drives the development of OpenStack Sahara and Murano projects and also actively participates in the development of OpenStack projects such as Heat, Ceilometer, and Trove.
Previously, Ilya ran Mirantis Cloud Services, broadening the expertise in cloud enablement for applications, DevOps automation, and creation of data-intensive services utilizing modern technology stack components such as Hadoop, Cassandra, Storm, and Lucene/Solr. Before that, Ilya headed Mirantis Global Engineering. He has also led the establishment of product development centers for world-leading technology innovators such as Cisco and Agilent.
Ilya holds a MSc in Physics with honors from Saratov State University, Russia. He spends time away from work mountain biking, hiking, and cross-country-skiing when the weather in California resembles his native Russia.
Vice President of Engineering, Mirantis OpenStack
Roman runs Mirantis’ OpenStack development arm, focused on delivering solutions in the OpenStack ecosystem, as well as creating and committing code for leading edge projects and features spanning the range of cloud infrastructure technologies.
At Mirantis, Roman has moved from software engineer to become a team lead, subsequently spearheading Mirantis’ presence at Cisco and growing it to 40+ engineers. He most recently served as the Director of the Big Data Competence Center. In 2006, Roman won the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest—the most prestigious programming contest in the world.
In his free time, Roman enjoys DJing and Go Kart racing.
Vice President and Chief Architect
Jason provides guidance, advice and implementation services for strategic enterprise projects, with a specific focus on using and implementing IaaS and PaaS services for customer experience excellence, operational excellence and high velocity development practices.
Jason has more than twenty years experience as an architect, engineer, and author. His depth of experience includes creative solutions for high performance and highly available systems.
Senior Technical Director
At Mirantis, Greg is responsible for building on-demand IaaS and PaaS layers for public and private clouds at marquis Fortune 1000 and late stage venture-funded customers, with a focus on the intersection of cloud and distributed data storage strategies.
Greg has over two decades of experience in platform and cloud engineering, working on creating breakthrough technology for cloud and high performance computing arena, and has worked for companies such as Sears Holdings, Brocade, Sun Microsystems, and Amdahl.
Greg holds a BS in Computer Science and Engineering from University of California, Davis.
Vice President, Finance
Lisa brings more than two decades of finance and accounting experience. Prior to Mirantis, Lisa was a Corporate Controller at Vudu, Inc., a Silicon Valley start-up, where she played a central role in driving the company’s growth and a successful sale to Wal-Mart.
Lisa has held numerous finance and accounting roles at BEA Systems, 3Com, and PriceWaterhouse. She is a CPA and holds a Master of Accountancy from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Director, OpenStack Educational Services
Lee leads Mirantis’ training and professional certification program, offering the highest quality resources available to master OpenStack. He has built a world-class technical and professional training team who has taught students from many high-tech and Fortune 1000 companies. Before taking the lead in educational services, he was a Technical Project Manager, overseeing OpenStack projects and working with a team of engineers to help service providers and enterprises deploy, operate, and support OpenStack clouds.
Prior to Mirantis, Lee led successful projects at Sony in Digital Cinema and Digital Workflow systems. He has worked in the tech industry for over 10 years.
Lee holds a BSc in Information Systems from Santa Clara University. He enjoys playing strategy games and hacking devices to do more than they were designed to do.
Director, HR & Operations
Esther Shih is a serial startup junkie and Mirantis’ resident C3PO (chief people, process and place officer). Esther has a track record of successfully building teams and scaling processes at notable Silicon Valley startups including Loudcloud, Keynote Systems and most recently at MongoDB. She is responsible for Mirantis’ Talent Team, which includes Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, Administrative Operations and Facilities.
Prior to her tech startup addiction, Esther started her career in Investment Banking and was a licensed securities representative for several years at Hambrecht & Quist and Credit Suisse First Boston.
