Core OpenStack Projects
Mirantis Zero-Lock-In OpenStack Distribution
At the heart of the Mirantis OpenStack distribution are production ready core OpenStack projects hardened and packaged by Mirantis.
Mirantis OpenStack 6.x includes the following core OpenStack projects packaged with their Linux dependencies and patches for critical bugs or security issues. All our software is 100% open-source. Our testing and processes are also completely open and transparent. These packages are hardened through extensive testing.
What Is Hardening?
Hardening consists of two distinct operations:
1. Bug and security fixes
We take a stable release and perform bug and security fixes on it using the hardening process described below. All the fixes are done in the open-source, but we do not control the timing and acceptance of these fixes into trunk. However, with a Mirantis OpenStack release, you are assured that all these fixes will be available. For example, the Juno 2014.2.2 had 104 issues fixed by the community including Mirantis. However, Mirantis 6.1, based on this Juno release, had an additional 245 bug & security fixes.
2. Patch curation
We do not put every feature or patch from trunk into Mirantis OpenStack. There are many patches that we feel are not ready for production and therefore we do not include them in Mirantis OpenStack.
The combination of these two operations gives you a 100% open-source distribution, but one that is not the same as trunk. Users who have tried to do this themselves have found that they need a real engineering team of OpenStack development experts in-house.
