Market demand for OpenStack expertise stimulates new hub for open source cloud deployments

Mountain View, Calif. (PRWEB) October 03, 2011 —

Mirantis, an engineering services company focused on open source application infrastructure, has established a Center of Excellence for OpenStack™ to help companies successfully deploy OpenStack projects.

OpenStack is free open source software, derived from a collaborative software project, to orchestrate and control public and private clouds for IaaS. More than 110 leading companies participate in OpenStack, including AMD, Cisco, Citrix, Dell, HP, Intel, and Microsoft.

With OpenStack clearly becoming a de facto standard platform for building private and public clouds and numerous, venture-backed startups and enterprises looking for OpenStack expertise, the market is clearly underserved.

This new Center will focus exclusively on OpenStack development and deployment. Currently staffed with 20 engineers and architects working on OpenStack projects with customers, Mirantis is already one of the largest OpenStack development organizations. Because of the growing demand, Mirantis expects to expand the engineering team to more than 50 by early spring.

The Center will focus on helping middleware and compute infrastructure providers intelligently integrate their solution offerings with the OpenStack ecosystem of products, as well as offer service-level agreement (SLA) backed deployments of OpenStack to enterprise customers.

California-based Mirantis has been an active member of the OpenStack community since its inception and has contributed multiple code commits to the OpenStack Compute and Identity projects. Mirantis is also one of the key organizers of the Bay Area’s OpenStack user group, hosting the quarterly community events in the Silicon Valley.

“With OpenStack clearly becoming a de facto standard platform for building private and public clouds and numerous, venture-backed startups and enterprises looking for OpenStack expertise, the market is clearly underserved,” explained Boris Renski, EVP and co-founder at Mirantis. “Having served such clients as Cisco, VMWare, Oracle, and others, we know what it takes to provide top-notch talent with special expertise.”

“We are glad to see Mirantis help fill the need for OpenStack expertise and help expand the OpenStack ecosystem, making it easier for those looking to work with OpenStack take advantage of the platform,” said Mark Collier, VP of Rackspace Cloud Builders.
