Mirantis joins FINOS to help accelerate open source adoption in financial services

According to the 2021 State of Open Source in Financial Services, the financial services industry has been using open source software for decades but not to its full potential. As a traditional and regulated industry, it faces greater challenges around open source, including inadequate implementation of best practices, the lack of open source leadership at the senior level, and unclear or restrictive policies for open source consumption and contribution. In light of these obstacles, Mirantis is committed to fostering more successful adoption of open source technologies in the financial services industry.

For this reason, Mirantis has strategically joined the Fintech Open Source Foundation (FINOS), a non-profit organization whose mission is to accelerate adoption of open source software, standards, and best practices in financial services. FINOS is a diverse community of developers, financial services, and technology companies who drive 11 active projects, such as FDC3, an open standard for financial desktops; Perspective, a data visualization and analytics component great for large and/or streaming datasets; and Waltz, an enterprise architecture visualization service useful for infrastructure compliance and management.

Throughout Mirantis’ history, from our early days as an OpenStack company, to our acquisition of the Docker Enterprise business, and now expanding into hybrid/multi-cloud technologies, we have been providing open source innovation, expertise, and training to financial services customers. Currently, financial services is our most important market, where we have the most customer accounts, including 20% of the world’s 100 biggest banks. Several of our financial services customers, including RBC and Societe Generale, have also joined FINOS.

As a member of FINOS, Mirantis aims to help financial services institutions drive innovation and growth through the adoption of Kubernetes and other cloud native technologies. We are excited to collaborate with the industry to deliver open source cloud native software and standards that address common challenges in the financial services market. Many of our financial services customers are using Kubernetes, containers, and microservices to address challenges around modernizing legacy applications, increasing productivity of development teams, implementing a secure software supply chain, connecting disparate systems of record, and supporting new use cases, such as AI/ML.
