Mirantis-Led Initiative Helps Users Identify OpenStack-Ready Infrastructure Vendors

Mirantis’ stackalytics.com and OpenStack.org Marketplaces Now Feature Web Dashboards Listing Infrastructure Vendors Interoperable With the OpenStack Cloud Platform

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA–(Marketwired – May 12, 2014) – Mirantis, the number one pure play OpenStack vendor, today announced the launch of a web-based dashboard that gives OpenStack users immediate information on all infrastructure vendors that have invested in making their solutions interoperable with the OpenStack cloud platform. The dashboard is available now and based on the completely open Apache 2.0 codebase of the associated DriverLog project maintained by the OpenStack community.

“Traditional open source communities tend to delegate vendor compatibility matters to commercial vendors and downstream distributions,” said Boris Renski, Co-Founder and EVP at Mirantis. “At Mirantis we believe that OpenStack is about unifying heterogeneous infrastructure innovations at the core, and exposing them via an open cloud fabric at the edge. Using process and transparency to tackle the challenge of vendor driver compatibility is a core value of the OpenStack community. Dashboards at stackalytics.com and OpenStack.org based on DriverLog are the first step in addressing this.”

The information on OpenStack compatible vendors aggregated by the DriverLog project is kept up to date via an open peer-review process familiar to technical participants of the OpenStack community and similar to the way in which Wikipedia articles are updated. Aside from being able to filter and search for various infrastructure vendors and associated driver code the DriverLog dashboard at stackalytics.com also provides:

  • Access to instructions on how to configure any vendor’s product with OpenStack.

  • Information on whether a vendor’s driver is embedded in the upstream codebase of an OpenStack release.

  • Information on whether a vendor has deployed an automated test infrastructure that provides feedback on the vendor’s driver passing or failing functional and integration tests.

  • Quick shortcuts for OpenStack deployers to contact maintainers of vendor drivers in case they run into issues.

“Transparency and accuracy of information about various vendor’s interoperability with the OpenStack cloud platform is essential for accelerating OpenStack adoption,” said Jonathan Bryce, Executive Director at the OpenStack Foundation. “We appreciate the work of Mirantis and the community to enable the broader ecosystem to effectively take advantage of that data.”

“At VMware, we are proud to provide enterprise-class virtualization infrastructure solutions that are compatible with OpenStack,” said Dan Wendlandt, director of product management for OpenStack at VMware. “Having a publicly-available third party dashboard will be a great tool to showcase VMware’s extensive OpenStack contributions and ongoing development efforts.”
